2022.01.27 05:28 xEvilMunkyx Curiosity Question -- Party Order
Hello folks! I'm currently in the middle of a playthrough of FFIX (just got back to Lindblum, I'm about to get the airship). I also enjoy watching play-throughs of old games that I'll likely never play, the latest being the NES version of the original FF.
I've picked up on a couple similarities in the game systems of both games (tents restoring a percentage of max hp/mp instead of a full restore comes to mind, as well as four party members, certain character models, and a couple others I can't think of right now), and I was wondering if how you set up your party also resembles the FFI system.
In FFI, you control how much your characters get hit by where you put them in your party order. The first (top) slot gets hit 50% of the time, slot 2 at 25%, and slots 3 & 4 at 12.5% each.
In FFIX we get the back row, which reduces physical damage taken/given, but does each character have the same chance of being targetted? It all seems pretty random to me, but I've got nothing more than casual observation to go on. Is there any advantage to putting your tankier characters in the first two slots?

2022.01.27 05:28 dermonty Really dissapointed on TP-Link omada, any suggestions on how to better take advantage of my gear?
| Hi folks, |
I hope this doesn't turn into a long post, but lately i've been feeling lost regarding my homelab... I started a huge migration process and keep going back and forth with architecture and how to manage it, I think that one of the reasons is that I really haven't mastered much regarding networks and infrastructure as code, but I guess that is what a homelab is for, right? To break stuff apart and then try to figure out where you fucked up.
One of the things that I like the most is to take advantage of whatever I can get, such as dd-wrt flashed routers and virtual networking, so far I used to have a solid pfsense virtual server for all my networking, but since the work from home scenario I decided to split my home network and my homelab, and here is where things started going downhill.
I have two internet connections at home because both ISPs are not really trustworty, so for a while we used to switch between the two connections, using the ISP modem, but I decided that it would be better if we can set it up somehow to load balance or at least do the failover, and then, build a somewhat secure wireless network with home, guests and IoT/Smart segregation. I used to have a Unifi AP but due to poor choices and misinformation, I decided to go trough the route of Omada, and got a ER605 router and a EAP 245 ap, with the hopes of getting a few other APs later down the road, in order to get automatic handoff and whatnot.
Here is the thing: load balancing just sucks with the ER605, i have tried all of the configurations either standalone and with the controller, but I just can't get it to work flawlessly. I used a Microtk router from a friend and a OPNsense VM and i did managed to benefit from both WANs, I know I can just get a microtik router and put that in front of the ER605 but space is a premium in the network rack I built for ths.
The last thing I hope for was to do some VLAN tagging and send both ISP connections to my homelab and still leave the Omada configured in failover for the rest of the newtork, but it seems that even to do so I also need to get a switch (related reddit post here).
Since I don't want this to become just a rant, I wanted to ask what would you do, I think of:
- get rid of the ER605 and just use Omada for the APs and get another firewall for load balancing
- get rid of all TP-Link and invest in Ubiquiti, given that I do have a Unifi AP and worked well previously (this AP was for homelab only)
- get rid of TP-Link and go with Microtik equipment. I don't have much experience with their APs, but ease of use, troubleshoot and configuration is important due to WAF.
I tried to create a diagram of the setup I'm looking for, basically, I want everything on the blue side to be reliable and easy to configure (hence my choice for Omada), and everything in yellow is my lab.
VLANs in green is what I was able to do, VLANs in red, i was unable.
Thanks and any help or comments are greatly appreciated.

2022.01.27 05:28 Milo_92 Streak 2: Public Speaking in English
Have you ever felt a bit nervous whenever you are about to give a presentation? Perhaps you get goosebumps, your palms start sweating, your heartbeat increase, or maybe you have to go to the bathroom so badly, but you really can't pee. Eventually, you go there and do it: you present! Sometimes it goes great, you can't even believe yourself (mom I'm nailing this!), other times it could go better, but you can't stop, you're there and it would be selfish to let people down specially if you have something important to say, and believe me, if you're put in the position of giving a talk, you have something important to say!
Now, imagine the previous scenario but now you're presenting in your second, third or fourth language. A language you've been studying for years and in which you feel relatively comfortable, but in which you know that there's still room to improve. At that point in time you need to be aware of two things: your public speaking skills and your English skills! Personally, I'd bet that if you're a great presenter in your first language (whatever language that might be), you're going to do just great with your English (after all, you've been studying it for years!). What makes you a great presenter is your energy and your charisma. These are treats that translate in every language! However, let's be frank, you have to be understood, people need to know what you're saying, or the force of your speech won't be the same. If you have to repeat yourself over and over again trying to get the right pronunciation of a word, that might hamper the flow of your presentation.
So, what should you do? Keep it simple, the simpler the better. You don't have to use big, convulated words. Use words that a enfant could understand, your message will come through so much clearly and people would definitely perceive you more authentic. But don't stop! Keep practicing those words you can't really utter, keep recording yourself before your presentations, keep grinding. One day, in hindsight, you'll realize how much you've improved, how easy the words come to you and how now you can play with the language!

2022.01.27 05:28 rBendr Does anyone else talk to them as if they're right next to you?
It's been a little over 2 months since our breakup. A day hasn't gone by in which I haven't thought about her. The pain used to be debilitating, but now it's not as bad. We went no contact. However, I can't stop talking to her in my head. While I do school work, I talk to her. I do it sometimes without even noticing. Before making this post, I was debating with her over the details of how we first met, which is a silly little argument that brought us both humor.
How far along are you in the breakup? Do you still talk to them in your head?
